6.1.0. How to Connect MetaMask to Binance Smartchain
(Please, note that Binance Smart Chain is now called BNB Smart Chain, abbreviated as BSC).
As mentioned above, Metamask is originally built for the Ethereum ecosystem. Hence, if you want to use it for the Binance Smartchain, you can reconfigure it as follows:
Step 1: Login to your Metamask wallet
Once you have done that, you will see the following (the arrangement may be slightly different on your phone):
(a). The Metamask logo on the extreme lefthand corner
(b). Ethereum Mainnet on the righthand corner. This tells you that you are connected to the Ethereum Smartchain.
(c). Account 1. This means you are in your first account, which is titled Account 1.
(d). The Ethereum logo, which is immediately below the account title and it is where any Ether you deposited will appear.
(e). Three buttons for Buy, Send and Receive.
(f). Asset and Activity, which are below the Buy, Send and Receive buttons.
Asset is where you will see all the Ethereum-based cryptos, the ERC-20 tokens, that you have in your Metamask wallet.
Activity is where you will see the transactions of each of the cryptos in your Metamask.
Step 2: Create a second account
Metamask allows you to have multiple accounts. Hence, you can set up another Account for Binance Smartchain and leave Account 1 for your ERC20 cryptos.
To set up a second account, click on the round symbol next to Ethereum Mainnet and then click on “Create Account.”
This will immediately create a second account titled Account 2, which you can rename as: “Account 2: Binance.”
Step 3: You can reconfigure Account 2 so that it is connected to Binance Smartchain.
To do this, click again on the round symbol next to Ethereum Mainnet and then click on “Settings.”
Step 4: Next, click on Network
Step 5: Click on “Add Network” in the top-right corner and a page will open.
Step 6: Now type in the following parameters in the relevant places as displayed:
Network Name: Smart Chain
New RPC URL: bsc-dataseed.binance.org
ChainID: 56
Symbol: BNB
Block Explorer URL: bscscan.com
Step 7: Click “Save” and your Account 2 will now be reconfigured and connected to the BNB Smart Chain.
